Peddles / Petals on the Waves

This is a popular and affordable way to say farewell, honour and disburse your loved ones ashes, in the beautiful waters surrounding Nanaimo from the peace and comfort of the Catamaran Shadowfax.

The service can either be attended with up to 12 people.

Suggested length of service is 1.5 hours.

It can be done in either daylight or evening hours . . . weather dependent.

All  faiths welcome.

Disbursement areas are numerous and we can be quite flexible as per location.  All locations are close to the main Nanaimo  shore or adjacent islands.  We find a calm area to ensure a comfortable service and usually try to turn off the motor, or put up some sail.  The only sound is nature, wind and waves.

Often an area can be chosen where the boat ceremony  can be viewed from  shore.  This is a place  where more family or friends - who do not fit on the boat -  can gather and can see the actual boat ceremony from a distance  and a place where family or friends can go in the future, on their own and remember  their loved ones.  Areas chosen previously have been Neck Point or Pipers Lagoon  beaches.

At times friends have gathered around the boat in kayaks and took part in the dispersal in that way.

For evening or night services, the moon, city and harbor lights and reflections add to the beauty of the

ceremony.

Distributing bags of loose flower petals, along with the ashes,  is a beautiful addition to the ceremony and highly recommended.

After the disbursement we try to cruise a short time, near the disbursement area, watching the ashes and flower petals gently spread throughout the area, and then slowly motor back to the marina.   We try to truly make it a special time.  Participants usually bring along snacks or refreshments to make a toast or simply to enjoy.

Cost:

$85 per person, for the first 4 people and $45 per person thereafter -  for

a maximum total of 12 people
